This mixed media depicts Lily Greet Mill on Station Rd in Southwell in its former times. The River Greet runs alongside and sometimes floods bursting its banks into nearby fields as in this painting. The mill stands on the site of Southwell’s mediaeval Burgage mill. Charles Caudwell, whose family originated from Derbyshire, bought the mill in 1851 and made changes to the mill’s capacity. Wheat was transported to the mill by road, rail and water. Local corn arrived by horse and cart, supplies from further afield came from the R.Trent by barge to a wharf at Fiskerton which is still there.
The mill suffered serious fires on three occasions in 1867, 1893 and 1917. On each occasion the opportunity was taken to modernise the plant ...
Local bakers took their supply of flour from the mill, best known was ‘Mosedale’s’ Bakery and Caudwell’s ‘Greet Lily Flour’ won the Nottinghamshire’s Bakers Cup in 1907, 1908, 1909, 1912 and 1914.

My passions are Art, the countryside, animals, nature, my dogs, science and medicine and mental health. I am a Psychiatric Nurse and Researcher by background, so I like to paint medical paintings. I have just had one of my paintings published as the front cover on the 2022 edition of Anatomy and Physiology by Elsevier..... I like to work from the early morning through to lunch and walk my Lurcher through the woods behind me. I gain inspiration from other artists, the countryside, animals and so don't really have a single style because I like to experiment so much. I hope you like my prints and artwork as much as I have enjoyed creating them and I'm really grateful to anyone who buys from me as its my sole source of income.
